Summary

The Corporate Port Engineer will investigate and analyze technical conditions as observed or reported on Kia Vehicles at U.S. Canada, Mexico ports of entry.  Such investigations and analyses involve parts, vehicle inspections, data analysis and comprehensive technical reporting to KMNA and KMC. The position utilizes quality, manufacturing and technical engineering skill set to support early identification of vehicle quality concerns and conduct necessary analysis and investigation to support issue communication, resolution and containment. The analyses of the quality investigation complaints are summarized into comprehensive technical documents to support timely resolution action in partnership with affiliates, suppliers, etc.  Cross-functional leadership and communication skills are required.  Intense follow up to ensure quality issues are addressed with urgency and confirmation of countermeasure effectiveness after implementation is critical.

 

The Port Engineer is also responsible for administration and enforcement of KMNA AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) and adherence to processes used within KMNA Product Quality Group and our manufacturing affiliates. Position is responsible for Port Process Performance audits, POE audits and open issue follow up.  Position will also support other Sea Corporate Port Engineers for AQL alignment, process best practices and ongoing process and product quality improvement.

Major Responsibilities

1st Priority - 30%

Conduct Port Vehicle Quality audit at First Point of Rest as required reporting findings to Kia NA and Kia HQ.

  • Write technical reports (Quality Investigation Reports) to comprehensively describe and quantify problem conditions.
  • Utilize all early warning and quality indicators to drive focused quality agenda and support quick effective countermeasure containment for factory and after sale customers.  
  • Provide feedback on vehicles to factories on regular basis, track and monitor results (Port Vehicle Audit reports, QIRs, etc)

2nd Priority - 30%

Conduct port processor PDI/PIO/PMP/Offsite storage audits on a regular basis discussing results with Glovis and port processor, manage all Port inspections/audits and collect and provide formal Monthly audit reports to PQ Management and all key stakeholders.

  • Provide Kia NA PQ oversight at Sea Port. Conduct Port Process Performance audits – assess and manage port process effectiveness in delivering defect free vehicles to Dealers

3rd Priority - 20%

Coordinate activities relating to Factory Quality and suppliers’ visiting ports and audits as required 

  • Confirm c/m incorporation and effectiveness. Ensure factories follow up.

4th Priority - 10%

Develop new port quality bulletins or revise or update current ones. 
Coordinate port training activities, as necessary, to support or supervise all port upgrade programs and accessory installation programs

5th Priority - 10%

Coordinate and participate in joint factory tests and evaluations as required including POE surveys.

  • Verify effectiveness of product changes made by factories
  • Perform and support other duties with special requests  
     

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field or equivalent work experience required
  • ASE Certification (A1-A8) / Advanced Engine Performance (L1) Preferred

Overall Experience

  • Minimum of 4-6 years Engineer/Technician experience in automotive industry required      
  • Strong working knowledge of automobiles with ability to perform hands-on diagnostic assessments along with automotive system mechanical and electrical work required

Directly Related Experience

  • Minimum 5 years automotive industry experience in a product quality or engineering environment required

 

Other Requirements:

  • Occasional travel may be required domestically and/or internationally. 
  • May need to work additional hours outside of normal business hours as required by the job, including weekends or holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

Ability to evaluate total vehicle dynamics, human factors and NVH in terms of acceptable vehicle competitiveness within the defined market segment
Ability to use common engineering measurement tools including dial indicator, micrometer, calipers, height gage, digital volt ohm meter and oscilloscope
Familiar with common service garage equipment including vehicle lift, alignment rack, A/C charging station, wheel balance machine, etc.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
Strong technical writing capabilities and oral communication skills

Pay Range

$76,535 - $123,925 

Pay will be based on several variables that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, etc.
