Summary

Monitor Kia vehicle performance conditions in the field regarding potential safety and reliability. Provide technical support to Consumer Affairs for vehicle claim resolution, perform vehicle inspections to support consumer claims defense and Lemon Law and warranty claim analysis. Provide technical support to Kia America (KUS) Legal and outside counsel for claims and lawsuit matters. This position also provides oversight for the technical analysis engineer position by training and supervision for accident and fire vehicle inspection. Provide deposition and trail testimony in Kia vehicle legal matters.

Major Responsibilities

1st Priority - 30%

Monitor Consumer Affairs, Warranty Data, Techline cases, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data, etc. to identify potential Kia vehicle safety and reliability concerns. Summarize and communicate potential concerns to management.

2nd Priority - 15%

Review Customer Care (CC) injury accident claims and vehicle fire claims. Provide technical recommendations to resolve CC accident and fire claims.

3rd Priority - 15%

Perform Kia vehicle inspections in the field for potential safety, injury accident, and fire claims. Potential safety inspections can be related, but not limited to SEL and EFID open items or inspections related to NHTSA requests.  Accident claim vehicles are inspected to determine if vehicle systems performed properly. Vehicle and occupant kinematics, dynamics, biomechanics, physics and accident Event Data Recorder data are used to analyze vehicle and occupant motion, damage and injury causation to evaluate vehicle performance to resolve claims. Fire claim inspections are performed to determine fire origin and root cause. National Fire Protection Association fire science principles and guidelines and the scientific method are followed to arrive at fire origin and root cause determinations for claim resolution.

4th Priority - 15%

Provide technical assistance to KUS Legal and outside counsel for claims and lawsuit case defense and trial preparation.

5th Priority - 15%

Manage the Technical Analysis Engineers. Provide training and supervision for accident and fire vehicle inspection, analyzing vehicle accident performance and fire origin and root cause. Review and assist with the Technical Analysis Engineer’s conclusions and recommendations.

6th Priority - 10%

Provide corporate and technical expert witness testimony in depositions and trials to assist in the aggressive defense of Kia products.

Education/Certification

  • BS degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology or equivalent work-related experience required 

Overall Experience

  • 5- 10 years of experience in automotive technical positions such as Technical Analysis, Product Quality or in a related engineering environment  

Directly Related Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of automotive systems and technology with the ability to perform hands-on vehicle system performance assessments.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Domestic travel (roughly 25%) and occasional international travel is required.
  • May need to work additional hours outside of normal business hours as required by the job
  • Perform other duties as assigned
     

Skills

Very good analytical skills.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work and communicate clearly with members of various KUS departments
Hands-on automotive technical knowledge of body, chassis, power train, brakes, electrical and safety systems.
Working knowledge of statistical and in-life analysis using Weibull software
Advanced knowledge of standard PC software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Pay Range

$108,209 - $156,133

Pay will be based on several variables that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, etc.
