Senior tax administrator will be responsible for (1) coordination/filing of sales &use tax return and Forms 1096/1099 prepared by outside processors, (2) preparation/filing of property tax returns, annual reports, and business licenses/permits, and (3) handling of levy and withholding tax notices. This position will also assist with all non-income tax audits and process tax payments.  Further, this position will respond to inquiries from 1099 recipients and file Form 945.

Major Responsibilities

1st Priority - 30%

Sales/use tax compliance

  • Coordinate sales/use tax return preparation with an outside tax return preparer by extracting data from accounting databases, gathering information from the other sources, and transferring the data to the preparer.

  • Process payments on time.

  • Maintain dealers resale certificates file.

  • Maintain sales tax resale and exemption certificates

  • Prepare and file claims for refund.


2nd Priority - 30%

Compliance other than sales/use tax

  • Prepare and file property tax return, annual reports, business licenses and registrations, distributor and representative licenses.

  • Process purchase requests for PO's on consultants and tax software subscriptions.

  • Review and approve all vendor invoices submitted through AP.


3rd Priority - 15%

Form 1099 issuance

  • Coordinate forms 1099 preparation with an outside 1099 processor by gathering information from all sources, uploading the information into SAP, and interfacing the data with the 1099 processor.

  • Prepare a response to IRS’ notices.  This includes sending B notices and requesting W-9.

  • Respond to requests from 1099 recipients.

  • Process monthly backup withholding tax payments.

  • Prepare Form 945.


4th Priority - 15%

Levy/withholding notices received from tax jurisdictions

  • Maintain a list of levy/withholding notices.

  • Process levy/withholding tax payments timely

  • Respond to IRS and state jurisdictions’ correspondences regarding levy/withholding taxes.


5th Priority - 10%

Assist with non-income tax audits

  • Assist with non-income tax audits, including preparation of data requested by auditors.

  • Other projects or duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field of study

Overall Experience

  • Understanding of general accounting and income tax laws

  • Experience in tax research

  • Automotive industry experience preferred

Directly Related Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in sales/use tax return preparation and remittance required.

  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in public accounting firm desired.

  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in 1099 process desired.

Other Requirements:

  • Occasional travel may be required domestically and/or internationally.

  • May need to work additional hours outside of normal business hours as required by the job, including weekends or holidays.

  • Perform other duties as assigned (eg. cross training, backup coverage, etc.)

  • Ability to perform well individually as well as part of a team.

  • Willingness to adapt to changing situations and needs in a positive manner.


Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Experience with SAP and query reporting
Intermediate level of proficiency in tax research on CCH, RIA, and BNA required

Pay Range

$69,547.00 - $93,113 

Pay will be based on several variables that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, etc.
