Summary
The purpose of this position is to lead efforts in providing the means and processes that collect and perform analysis of data to provide the National Manager, Safety Evaluation & Assessment with early identification of Potential Safety Issues (PSIs). These processes, including the platforms and applications supporting them, are collectively known as Kia’s Safety Data Analytics Infrastructure (SDAI).
This position will make determinations as to which Kia NA field data, TREAD reports, NHTSA VOQ, NHTSA investigation, recall, and news/forum/social media, and other public and proprietary data should be collected, compiled, analyzed, and reported, as the core of the North America Safety Office (NASO) data analytics efforts. This position will also manage the Data System Specialists by overseeing their work and providing regular feedback.
This position will have a leading role in identifying, designing, developing, and testing the technology and software applications needed to perform these tasks, as technology changes and additional data sources become available. The individual will also continuously seek improvement of existing systems and analysis methods, as well as to lead interactions with IT affiliates and outside vendor teams that develop and maintain NASO data systems. This position will be responsible for maintaining procedures and communication links with all departments which are providing the source data for the Data Analysis Engineers, as well as sharing this data and analysis with stakeholders.
Major Responsibilities
1st Priority - 25%
Determine data sources necessary for early identification of PSIs and identify the means to access and update the information on a continuous basis. Supervise the Data System Specialists and oversee the design, development, and testing of automated processes to support data access and upload.
2nd Priority - 25%
Provide means and processes for Data Analysis Engineers to access, analyze, and report PSIs by providing powerful analytic, statistical, and programming tools, including leading the collaboration efforts with outside vendors. Ensure system uptime, and provide timely resolution of system issues.
3rd Priority - 20%
Supervise the development and continuous improvement of predictive modeling based on NHTSA Risk Matrix severity level and frequency criteria, as well as TREAD EWR data outlier thresholds. Collaborate with Emerging Field Data Manager and Field Data Analysis Manager and team to ensure that SDAI is updated to capture new categories of NHTSA investigations, recalls, and VOQs.
4th Priority - 15%
Lead interactions with IT and affiliates to develop and maintain systems that obtain data, analyze PSIs, and perform case management of PSIs.
5th Priority - 15%
Assist with or delegate NHTSA and Legal Department requests for unique data analysis methods.
Education/Certification
- BS degree in Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field required.
Overall Experience
- 5-10 years of experience in Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field required.
Directly Related Experience
- 4 years of experience in automotive or durable goods engineering or quality analysis preferred.
- 7 years of experience in manipulating data sets and building statistical models preferred.
- 3 years full-stack data systems development/engineering experience preferred.
- Project management and people management experience preferred.
- Experience with SAS programming language and/or SQL.
- Experience working with and creating relational databases.
- Experience with text mining and building taxonomy models using SAS Visual Text Analytics.
- Experience building visualizations and dashboards for stakeholders (e.g., using SAS Visual Analytics, Tableau, Power BI, JavaScript, HTML).
- Automotive, aerospace, or equivalent engineering background.
- Experience supporting engineering, quality, safety, or statistical analysis.

- Schedule(s) may vary due to needs of the business including but not limited to working outside of normal business hours, travel, weekends and/or holidays.

Pay Range
$92,768 - $128,882
Pay will be based on several variables that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, etc.
