Status
Summary
The Regulatory Counsel will be primarily responsible for providing in-house legal advice and services relating to regulatory and governmental inquiries and reporting on product safety, product quality, emissions/environmental, importing, cybersecurity/privacy, and other issues. This role is also responsible for coordinating with legal department management, the North American Safety Office, affiliate companies, Kia America’s parent company, and outside legal counsel to manage the foregoing matters. Ability to adjust to changing circumstances and willingness to cross-train into other practice areas within the Legal Department preferred.
Major Responsibilities
1st Priority - 50%
Manage and provide legal advice and legal services relating to motor vehicle safety regulations.
2nd Priority - 20%
Manage and provide legal advice and legal services relating to motor vehicle environmental regulations.
3rd Priority - 20%
Provide legal advice and legal services relating to importing/customs and cybersecurity/privac.
4th Priority - 5%
Provide reporting to the legal dept. and executives.
5th Priority - 5%
Other projects within the legal department as needed.
Education/Certification
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- California State Bar Admission
Overall Experience
- 5-8 years top tier law firm and/or in-house experience
- Technical or engineering background and training helpful
Directly Related Experience
- Prior experience in automotive regulatory matters/government relations
