Summary

Principle role 

Manage Kia’s pre-sale regulatory compliance for GHG/CAFÉ, ZEV, LEV, and other regulations. Monitor and guide CAFÉ/GHG and ZEV compliance, developing near and longer term compliance proposals and recommendations. Manage and monitor safety regulatory topics (NHTSA, IIHS), as well as other regulatory topics such as 33% weight limitations and AALA.  Serve as SME for core regulatory topics.

Interaction with certain KMA and KMNA departments, HATCI, and Namyang R&D  
Work with KMA Sales, Distribution, Kia Motors Corporation affiliates, and R&D entities (HATCI, Namyang R&D Regulatory Compliance Team (RCT)).

Major Responsibilities

Priority 1st - 80%

CAFÉ/GHG: Monitor and guide CAFÉ and GHG compliance by model, and recommend compliance strategies given various volume scenarios, mix%, and powertrain offerings. Manage occasional ad hoc projects such as CAFÉ scenarios, off-cycle credits, and related collaboration with Kia/Hyundai Motor Group affiliates, etc.    

ZEV: Monitor and guide ZEV compliance (including monthly communication with field sales management), compose compliance strategies/proposals based on various volume scenarios.

LEV III: Monitor and guide LEV compliance strategies (for NMOG, evap, and PM compliance).

IIHS: monitor and define product requirements necessary for IIHS TSP and TSP+

Inertia Test Weight (ITW): work with KMA Distribution to guide and recommend on 33% limitation matters.

Regulatory SME: serve as in-house expert on GHG and CAFE, ZEV, LEV III, NHTSA and IIHS (TSP, TSP+) tests and ratings, Monroney labels/fuel economy labeling, and FMVSS topics. Research related laws and regulations as needed.

Represent: Represent Kia, and interact with various trade associations, California Air Resources Board (CARB), EPA, trade association member companies, etc.

Priority 2nd - 20%

Ad hoc projects related regulatory compliance, and potentially other topics

Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Advanced degree (MSE, MBA) preferred
Overall Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, engineering, or related fieldsv
Directly Related Experience
  • Strong knowledge of automotive regulations, and the near and longer term regulatory landscape and implications
  • Solid knowledge of green automotive sectors (hybrid, PHEV, FCEV, EV)
  • Ability to distill complex data into concise executive reports Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong Excel competency
Skills
Competency in sourcing regulatory legislation
Familiarity with IHS, JATO, JDP PIN, Polk, mTab beneficial
PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
Precise analytical/mathematical skills critical
Acumen for accuracy and problem resolution
Excellent communication and presentation skills required (written and oral).
Ability to partner easily with senior leadership and team members.
