Summary

The Engineer I or II - Technical Project Service Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Identify, investigate and analyze engine-related product quality/service problems in Kia vehicles
  • Coordinates the preparation of all work related to the publication of TSB and SA and countermeasure effectiveness.
  • Supports release of any Special Service Tools (SST)
  • Provides support to the field and dealers concerning all engine-related publications
  • Engine Projects
  • RHQ Integration Support
  • DTC Trouble Shooting & Telematics Early Issue identification projects.

 

Major Responsibilities

1st Priority - 60%

ENGINE Projects:

  • Case monitoring, data analysis, extensive engine TFT support and dealer visits, coordination and follow up of technical publication related publications, SST (Special Service Tool) validation, part requirements, part testing, formulating affected VIN lists, daily communications and coordination with Warranty, Consumer Affairs, Kia University and occasional communication with Kia Motors Corporation (KMC).
  • Technical support and oversight for PQ high mileage accumulation
  • Support coverage of all Product Quality (PQ) work related to the early identification and analysis of all quality concerns, dealer technical Go & See visits, KMC Engine TFT support and countermeasure implementation in the field.  Monitoring all quality indicators for countermeasure effectiveness monitoring and supporting/formulating cost reduction proposals.
  • Coordinating  preparation of work related to the publication of engine related Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), Service Actions (SA), Product Improvements (PI) and Campaigns. Ongoing analysis of all data sources to confirm countermeasure/field fix effectiveness.
  • Providing support to all corporate and field staff concerning all engine related Campaigns, TSBs, Service Actions, Product Improvements, and all other engine-related topics.
  • Coordinate and execute dealer go and see technical activities with Kia Motors Corporation (KMC), HATCI, NAQC and other subsidiary personnel.   
  • Direct responsibility over Translead Engine Remanufacturing process
    • Consolidation of all quality issues reported via warranty, techline, and field reports (FPQRs)
    • Present findings to Translead
    • Quarterly visit to Translead in Tijuana, Mexico.
  • Conduct IQS/VDS/Consumer Reports/VOQ and all reliability data/results analysis

2nd Priority - 20%

DTC Trouble Shooting & Telematics Early Issue identification projects

  • ·Support Service Engineering root cause analysis as related to the use of DTC codes 
    • Utilize data to assist early issue identification and analysis and reporting of quality concerns.
    • Supporting all DTC analysis for EWR and Model Quality Reports.
    • Provide contextual information (eg. mileage and vehicle conditions) to aid in diagnostics of quality concerns
  • Support technical DTC projects for PQ:  
    • Developing the system to leverage DTC data from embedded vehicles.
    • Developing Battery SOC project
  • Develop new business opportunities for use of DTC data within Service Organization
    • Extending the DTC data to the Service Team
    • Support targeted proactive customer engagement

3rd Priority - 20%

RHQ Integration Support:

  • Serve as our KMNA RHQ PQ integration liaison to coordinate regional PQ activities:
    • Improve quality information sharing and best practices efforts
    • Oversight for consistent reporting and analysis. 
      • Manage KPI development and reporting to establish common standards 
      • Top issue identification for regional common concerns and reporting
  • Serve as our KMNA RHQ PQ integration liaison to coordinate regional PQ activities:
    • Support implementation of data sharing processes and methodologies and IT-related project(s) pertaining to RHQ Integration.
  • Manage regional communication processes
    • Prepare reports and presentations on integration progress

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or 3 years of equivalent automotive and engineering experience required.

Overall Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of automobile technology, with the ability to perform hands-on diagnostic, mechanical and electrical work on vehicle systems
  • Strong analytical approach to problem resolution
  • DTC Trouble shooting experience preferred
  • Project Management experience preferred

 

Position Requirements:

  • Occasional travel required domestically and/or internationally 
  • May need to work additional hours outside of normal business hours
  • For quality improvement purposes, position requires continuous evaluation of Product Quality Test Fleet vehicles and will include driving outside of normal business hours. This requires the possession of a valid state driver’s license and good driving record.

Directly Related Experience

Service Engineer:

  • 3+ years automotive industry experience in quality assurance or engineering environment preferred

Skills

Strong technical writing capabilities and oral communication skills
Ability to use common engineering measurement tools (ie. micrometers, dial indicators, digital volt ohm meters and oscilloscopes)
Ability to use common service garage equipment (ie. Vehicle lift, alignment equipment, A/C charging station, wheel mount/balance equipment, etc.)
Working knowledge of PC and software (minimum: MS office intermediate level, in particular Power point and Excel)
Knowledge of engine operations and functionality
