The Director, Kia University translates Kia America (KUS) company goals and vision into fully integrated initiatives and educational training programs that elevate KUS Dealer network operational effectiveness through the development of People, Process, Systems, and Culture as measured by the appropriate key performance indicators. As an internal support resource, Kia University closely partners with Sales and Aftersales departments to develop creative solutions designed to enhance Dealer network performance and ease of doing business with KUS. 


The Director, Kia University closely monitors industry training trends to ensure KUS is utilizing the most advanced methods and technologies for educating Dealer personnel.


The Director, Kia University is responsible for the strategic development, implementation and delivery of all dealership sales, service, service technical, and parts training-certification programs.  Further responsibilities include oversight of remote training center operations, stewardship of the web site, plus the review, development and distribution of all vehicle owner’s manuals/quick guides, service information, special service tools, and dealer service equipment through the direct supervision of the Kia University team managers. 


The Director, Kia University is also responsible for development and implementation of training strategies related to Kia’s Total Transformation which focus on brand, mindset, philosophy, etc.


Close interaction and collaboration with constituent departments, regional staff and Dealer personnel is required to ensure training needs are effectively met and desired business outcomes are achieved. The Director, Kia University leverages the array of internal team skills and synergies to effectively develop and implement cross functional initiatives that streamline development time while effectively managing operational expenses. Ongoing review and development of the department’s support systems, processes, training center facilities, and other resources are effectively managed to meet the needs of the corporate, regional and dealer organization.

1st Lead the strategic direction and oversee the development, and implementation of the Retail Sales, Service, and Parts Training and Certification function and deliverables for Kia Dealer employees and KUS field managers. 25%
2nd Lead the strategic direction and oversee the development, and implementation of the Service Technical Training and Certification function and deliverables.    Additionally, develop programs to promote Kia technician recruitment and retention. 25%
3rd Lead the strategic direction and oversee the development, and implementation of the Service Information, Equipment, and Customer Education function and deliverables. 25%
4th Lead the strategic direction and oversee the stewardship and daily operation of Kia University web site plus Elite Certification program. 15%
5th Develop and implement new, strategically focused, programs, systems, processes, and other improvements to effectively support the needs of the corporate, regional and Dealer organization. 10%



  • Four-year education or business degree.  Master’s degree preferred.

Overall Experience

  • Minimum 15 years progressive training management and leadership experience providing direction to staff management and individual contributor team members. 
  • Must have a strong working knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of custom, performance-based curriculum design and delivery on a national scale.
  • Extensive working knowledge of new vehicle dealership Sales and Aftersale operations preferred.

Directly Related Experience

  • Advanced management experience required in an automotive manufacturer/ distributor and/or new vehicle dealership environment.
  • Previous automotive teaching and instructional development experience at the High School, College, Adult Education or Manufacturer/Distributor level in the automotive environment preferred.



  • Must have valid California Drivers License and maintain a responsible record that meets the criteria established by KUS.
  • Overnight travel is required.


Requires advanced organizational, planning, budgeting, policy, and analytical skills.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Communicates clearly with strong written and presentational skills and able to articulate complex messages to a variety of audiences including senior management
Advanced knowledge of management systems, enterprise learning systems, and system generated reporting processes are required.
